Disclosure of Invention Form
This form should be used when you have conceived or developed a new and useful process, machine, article of manufacture, or composition of matter, or any new useful improvement thereof, or when unusual, unexpected or unobvious research results have been achieved and can be used.

The purpose of this form is to notify the OTC of your potential invention, to identify any relevant sponsorship and describe the publication history. It also serves to establish a legal record of the date of the conception of the invention.

An Inventor Data Sheet is required to be completed for each person identified as an inventor of the technology being disclosed. One of these forms is contained within the Disclosure of Invention form and additional copies may be downloaded >here.

Once your completed disclosure is received by the OTC it is assigned to a licensing officer who will then become your primary point of contact for that disclosure. The licensing officer will conduct a patentability and commercial assessment on the technology. The assessment process most often begins by interviewing you, the creator, so as to gain a better understanding of the scientific merit and also to determine if there are any commercial partners that you already have in mind. We will also engage the System member's scientific review team, consult with patent counsel and conduct our own market analysis.

Once the OTC determines that the technology meets essential patentability and commercial criteria, your licensing officer will begin the process of protecting, marketing and eventually negotiating a license agreement with a commercial partner.

Please note that we have different disclosure forms for software, research materials and plant varieties.
